Update 11/07/2017: Tenor implemented a fix for the content issues and WhatsApp won’t be blocked
WhatsApp needs to remove obscene GIFs from the app in Indonesia. Otherwise, the country will block the messaging service.
That’s reported by Reuters. Obscene GIFs is another description for adult or dirty images.
WhatsApp said that they can not remove the GIF files because their service is end-to-end encrypted. The company has asked Indonesia to talk to GIF supplier Tenor. Indonesia, however, will block the app within 48 hours if WhatsApp doesn’t take action.
Tenor had already been blocked in Indonesia. Another supplier Giphy is working on a filter for their content in Indonesia.
