WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton leaves the company after eight years.
Acton writes in a Facebook post that he’s going to start a “non-profit focused at the intersection of nonprofit, technology and communications”. He’ll share more in the coming months.
Brian Acton founded WhatsApp in 2009 together with Jan Koum. He was primarily responsible for the development of the Android version of WhatsApp and pushed for encryption and privacy. In 2014, Facebook bought WhatsApp and he became multi billionaire.
The departure coincides with the commercialization of WhatsApp. The company wants to earn money with solutions for businesses.
Co-founder and CEO Jan Koum thanks Brian Acton on Facebook.
