WhatsApp for business is getting closer

WhatsApp is testing their app for businesses. A new WhatsApp FAQ page gives more details about verified accounts.

In November 2016, we discovered the first hints for verified business accounts. These accounts are now being tested with businesses in a pilot program..

As soon as WhatsApp has confirmed that a phone number belongs to a business, the contact’s name will get the following green badge next to their name.

The verified business has the name you have saved in your address book. If you don’t have saved the number on your phone, you will see the name the business has set up for themselves. You can block companies if you’d like to stop them contacting you.

When chatting with a business, you’ll also see a yellow message inside the chat, similar to the message “Messages you send to this chat and calls are now secured with end-to-end encryption.” See below screenshot (source: WABetaInfo).

WhatsApp is currently testing the verified accounts with a small number of businesses. Businesses will get more options than regular accounts, like opening hours in profile information and auto-reply away messages.

It’s not known when, how and what businesses can verify their account. WhatsApp did not comment.
